Is 35% tint legal in Georgia?
35% is legal on every side and rear window of a car in Georgia. 20% is legal on the rear of any vehicle. 5% is not legal on the front windows.
35% tint
Front side windows must be 28% VLT or lighter, and 35% is lighter than 28%, so 35% is legal on the front, the rear sides and the back window of any vehicle.
20% tint
20% is darker than 28%, so it is not legal on the front side windows. It is legal on the rear side windows and back window because the limit there is 15% on a car, and rear windows of SUVs and trucks can be darker.
5% tint
5% is very dark, often called limo tint. It is not legal on the front side windows of any vehicle, and not on the rear of a car. It is only an option on the rear windows of an SUV, truck or other multipurpose vehicle.
Reading the numbers
Lower means darker. Law enforcement meters can read a few percent either way, so a shade right at the limit can read slightly over or under. If you want to be safe, pick a shade a little lighter than the limit.
