Georgia's 2026 window tint law change
Georgia updated its tint rules effective July 1, 2026. Here are the current numbers, as of October 2026.
What the law is now
Front side windows: 28% VLT or lighter. Rear side windows and back window on a car: 15% VLT or lighter. Windshield: tint on the top 6 inches only. Tint cannot be more than 20% reflective. The state allows about 3% either way on a meter reading.
Where it comes from
The change is in HB 1161 (Act 640), Section 3, amending the Georgia code on window tint, effective July 1, 2026. We link the official PDF on our Georgia tint law page.
If you tinted before the change
If your tint was installed before July 1, 2026, we cannot tell you how the change applies to it. Ask the state or a lawyer. If you want to know whether your current shade fits the numbers above, we can tell you what the limits are for each window.
Stay up to date
Laws can change again. Check this page and the state's site before you pick a shade, and ask us if you are unsure.
